Horses That Need Homes!
I've removed the other horses who had been on this page for the past year. I have no idea if their owners placed them. I'm sorry for that, but if they hadn't found a home in that time, I'm sure other arrangements were made - as with most people who contact me, money is the reason they won't keep their horses.
If you contact the owners below and take their horse, please let me know so I can remove them from this page.....

(My note: Folks, I have no idea which one is Cody and which Rio. Neither looks thoroughbred-y to me and I have no idea what a "crop out paint" is .... But contact Shari if you're interested!)
I have owned Cody since he was a two year old. My circumstances changed dramatically two years ago and a friend took over their care. Now she no longer wishes to keep them. I am trying desperately to find a home for these good boys. They are both rideable, good natured guys.
Being put to death while still healthy viable horses is not what they deserve.
Here are pics of Cody and Rio. My friend has cut back on hay because of her financial situation and Rio with his Thoroughbred breeding is paying the price. :(
Cody is 24, DOB 5/12/87. He is a crop out Paint (no papers). I bought him as a two year old and used him simply for trail riding. He is used to be ridden along the road and I have never had a problem. He is used to the farrier, bathing, clipping etc. I broke him out hunt seat and he has only ever had a snaffle and used leg pressure so he has a very soft mouth. He is a very easy keeper, I think he could just about live on air. He does like to try to "assist" you with anything you're doing in the paddock. He does not kick.

Rio is 22. DOB unknown. He is a Thoroughbred/Quarter mix. I bought him as a companion for Cody from a barn that was using him for a schooling horse for beginners. He is broke out hunt seat and has very limited time under western. He does not neck rein. He is very gentle but not terribly inspired to do any more than what's asked of him. He has never kicked in the time that I've had him. He is a bit more aloof than Cody. I think that's simply because he's been traded around alot more before I had him. He is a harder keeper than Cody, that is why he is getting so thin! I am distressed over this. When he is bored he paces along the paddock fence which is not helping him keep weight on. When I had him here in Indiana I had almost 5 acres so he had plenty to nose around in and did not pace after the first week I had him. He is a real sweetheart.
Both of the boys are healthy. I very much would like to keep them together and tho I wouldn't own them I would like to keep tabs on them. It breaks my heart to have to try to move them on. If I could find the resources I would bring them back to Indiana.
Cody (24 yrs) and Rio (22 yrs) have been stable buddies for the past 7 years. I bought Cody as a 2 yr old. I would like them to stay together if at all possible tho I know how difficult that may be.
When my finances changed dramatically 2 years ago I had them here in Indiana where I am. My friend who took them in lives west of Bakersfield, CA. That is where they are presently. I don't know about transportation. I will have to discuss that with them if I can find someone who will take them in.
Both are broke to ride. They have been ridden English for the most part. Neither neck rein well. Rio was for a time used as a schooling horse for beginners. He is tall but very gentle. Rio's hocks are fused but it does not bother him.

This lovely guy is Zippy. He's a pasture pet, as you will see, but his owner offers to help with his support. YES he should come here, but I need full support - only 1/3 of TGCs horses have full support. But this guy has been earning his keep by helping other horses - I'm hopeful he'll find that person with only one horse who needs a buddy; or a foal who needs some comfort; or just an empty yard that needs a lovely guy who deserves it....

“Zippy” aka ‘Ima Hot Leaguer” has been at PlasVac USA for over 5 years. He has been one of there favorites and is physically doing well. Unfortunately, he needs to be moved because they are no longer able to use his plasma. Zippy became one of the 2%. A foal that received his plasma died recently. They tell me this can be a reaction just like in humans but when this happens they can no longer use the horse for his plasma.
As I stated below Zippy has been at PlasVac USA for about 5 ½ years. I sent him there because he has degenerative joint disease and I could not ride him like I did ride. He was a horse that went camping and did lots of trails. Unfortunately now he is not a rideable horse. He is a retired horse. He is about 14 ½ years old and has a wonderful temperament. Heather at PlasVac can give you the most up to date on him. He doesn ‘t need any medications or supplements. He is a very “easy keeper”. All they do there is teeth, inoculations and filing of feet. He is one of their favorites. He comes when you call him and is a very socialable horse
Just look at this gorgeous boy! His owner writes:
Looking for a good home for my horse, Razz
He's a black bay thoroughbred gelding. He is sweet and respectful and a very good
boy. He gets along well with other horses. He turned 17 in June of 2011.
I have owned him since he was 3. I must find him a good home. My preference
would be to loan him, but my priority is to place him in a good home where he is
well taken care of. He can do unlimited riding at a walk. Occasionally he needs
Adequan. Razz would make a great companion or stable mate. Please call or email
if you have any questions.

Yes, I'd love to have him at TGC - but he can do unlimited walking and looks gorgeously healthy. He could have many lovely years riding trails with someone ... maybe you? Please contact Tracy directly.
